I’m going to do a series of posts of photographers that I find inspirational. Some of these names you will know, some of them I’m sure you won’t know. I’ve been bookmarking photographers for about 8 years now, and I love going back to their sites and seeing what they are up to.
This first list of inspiring photographers is in the Landscape category. Now to avoid offending any of my extremely talented landscape friends, I’m deliberately omitting the work of any photographers that I know personally.
So Here’s my list of six landscape photogaphers that I find inspiring (in no particular order).

Michael Kenna
I fell in love with Michael’s minimalist B&W photography from the moment I first saw one of his images. I love the way he puts together a real comprehensive body of work around a place or subject. His images are so simple but beautiful one moment, and then so dramatic and powerful the next. I could get lost for hours browsing through his archive of work.
David Fokos
Minimalist, B&W photographer. I love his use of negative space. Just gorgeous B&W photos. My favorite set of images of his would be the body of work that he calls “Water”.
Martin Stavars
Another B&W photographer, Martin does a lot of photography of cityscapes, nightscapes etc. but I love this portfolio that he has created called The Man & The Sea. I love it because it is bringing in the human form to beautiful B&W seascapes. The human figure gives, scale and grandeur to the seascapes.
Andy Mumford
In my notes I had written “Mr ND.” next to Andy’s name. I know that he is some sort of “guru” on the use of ND filters. He started, or has written for, a magazine called ND Magazine (who would have thought there would be an entire publication devoted to the use of ND filters). His work is beautiful and “more traditional” landscape work. Almost painterly, just stunning.
Michael Levin
Another minimalist B&W photographer (I hope this style of photographer is not boring you)…. I love Michael’s work. So simple, but so beautiful. The tones, the composition, everything about the images are gorgeous.
Leigh Perry
Leigh is probably the “odd man out” in this list. He’s a Sydney local (I haven’t met Leigh), and he shoots large format. His work is minimalistic and beautiful. Check out his project called Fractured if you want to see what I mean by Minimalist photography. It is beautiful in it’s simplicity.
